Damper and Vents

I have two issues. The website indicates that the pillow should go above the damper. Our damper is about 4 feet up the chimney chute. It's attached to a chain and when open, the damper bisects the flue in an up and down position. Would we still position a pillow above the damper? How?
The second issue sounds very much like the one Kathy presented back in December 2008. We have a set of vents below the damper on all four sides. There are about 6 horizontal vents per side and they extend from right below the damper to about 8 inches below. Were you able to resolve that problem?
Thanks.

It sounds like you have a chain actuated damper that is set up there pretty far (4' is quite high). Generally with chain actuated dampers it is easiest to put the Chimney Balloon in below the damper, but it is a matter of finding an area that has parallel walls on at least 2 sides. Here is an image of a chain actuated damper looking at it from the firebox: http://www.chimneyballoonusa.com/blog/2008/12/all-4-flue-walls-slant-under-my-damper-where-do-i-put-the-chimney-balloon.html This particular damper in the picture has the front and back walls parallel to each other and the side walls slope, so it was possible to put a Chimney Balloon in just below the damper and the chains just sat on the top of the Chimney Balloon once it was installed.
Does this image look something like your fireplace when you look up at the damper?
If you would like to discuss the application further you are welcome to call our customer service line at 608-467-0229 and we can walk you thorugh the best location to install a Chimney Balloon.

Thanks Jason. Yes,the picture referenced in your post resembles our chimney. Fortunately, the chain is not attached in the center of the damper so we don't have to deal with that. We do have vents extending down on all four sides below the damper though. I'm guessing we'd want the balloon big enough to block all the vents? I'll try to get some measurements this weeekend.

The Chimney Balloon will install right over top of those vents. Just be sure you dont try to reposition the Chimney Balloon once you have it fully inflated in place. When it inflates the Balloon will start to expand and bulge into the vents a bit (which is fine) but if you start to try to move it at that point the vents will try to cut into the material (this is bad).
In case you were wondering what it looks like the picture on this blog article is that very same chain actuated damper fireplace only with the Chimney Balloon installed below the damper.

So this give you an after look once the Chimney Balloon is in. ---------- Jasonr Moderator

All authentic nfl jerseys from china are manufactured by Reebok. The National Football League team cheap Baltimore Ravens jerseys has promoted Greg Mattison to the defensive coordinator.People always love the cheap Buffalo Bills jerseys, with good reason, this is a team that ever since the days of Jim Kelly have been a scrappy little team that refused to give up and quit.
