Electric Fireplace Insert

elbyjo 1 post Dec 30, 2009 4:51 PM	Jason, Any issues with a chimney balloon and using an electric fireplace insert? Also, does the chimney balloon muffle noises coming down the chimney? jasonr 60 posts Dec 31, 2009 7:21 AM	Hi Elbyjo, We actually get the electric fireplace insert question quite a bit here at Chimney Balloon. And, Yes, having a Chimney Balloon inserted in the flue before you slide in the electric fireplace insert does make quite a big difference in stopping the cold draft and noise that sneaks down the flue. Most electric fireplace inserts are closed units so they only vent heat directly out the front and not out of the top of the unit. Secondly, On the noisy pigeons in the flue....This is another question we get regularly as well. Unfortunately, pigeons like the acoustics of chimneys and the warm air that emits from them. So they tend to host an regular pigeon variety show right there on the crown of the chimney. Putting in the Chimney Balloon does make a very nice sound barrier to keep that noise outside. Since the balloon is filled with air it does a nice job bouncing and absorbing sound waves. However, if you don't have a cap on the chimney top with a screen on it, you will want to consider that. Those pigeons also tend to use the chimney crown as a "Pigeon Potty", and you don't want that kind of bacteria deposit in your chimney. ---------- Jasonr Moderator
